The Solar System



California State Standards covered in this lesson 
Science Standard 4.d. Students know that Earth is one of several planets that orbit
 the Sun and that the Moon orbits Earth.
Science Standard 1.a. Students know energy comes from the Sun to Earth in the
 form of light.

Introduction 
Welcome to the Solar System. The goal of this lesson is to learn that our
Solar System is made up of the Sun, eight orbiting planets, their moons
and other objects traveling around the Sun. 
 










Task
Working with a partner;
 (1) Study the vocabulary terms ( located at the bottom of the page).Take the quiz and
 and print the results. Minimum of 80%  passing score.

 (2) Watch the video "The Solar System Song" and take notes for digital presentation.
                          
(3) Review/play Eduplace E-Word Game on the Solar System

Process
 Working with your partner create a digital representation of the Solar System. Label the planets including the inner planets, outer planets and the Sun to show your understanding of the Solar System. Choose from Google docs, Glogster, Pretzi or Power Point to present your understanding of the Solar System.


Rubric
3- Digital presentation on the Solar System with all planets labeled including the inner
and outer planets. Minimum of 12 slides except for Glogster users. Quiz scores turned in with 
minimum score of 80% or higher and notes from video submitted. No grammatical or spelling errors.

2- Digital presentation on the Solar System with at least 6 planets labeled including inner and
outer planets. Minimum of 8- 10 slides except for Glogster users. Quiz scores turned in with minimum score or higher. Video notes submitted. Minimum grammatical or spelling errors.  

1- Digital presentation on the Solar System with less than 6 planets labeled. Less than 8 slides used for presentation. Quiz score missing or below the minimum. Grammatical and spelling errors. 

Conclusion
 Share your experience with your class. Present and explain what you have learned about
our Solar System. Share any problems you encountered creating your digital presentation.
